BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team saw an 11-match home unbeaten streak come to an end Saturday night (Sept. 20), as the Falcons fell to Bellarmine University, 3-0, at Cochrane Stadium.
The Knights (4-2-2) took the lead midway through the first half, and a red card reduced the Falcons to 10 men several minutes later. The visitors doubled the lead with just over five minutes left in the half, then added another goal midway through the second period.
Nick Harshaw had a goal and an assist for the Knights, while Martin Cadagan and Johan Nissen-Lie also scored goals for the visitors. Peter Van Euwen had five saves in goal.
Bellarmine had a slim 13-12 lead in total shot attempts, with both teams putting five shots on goal. The Falcons had a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.
Enzo Gil made two saves for the Falcons. Saturday's match marked the first time this season that BGSU allowed more than one goal in a match.
NOTE OF THE NIGHT
• The loss snapped an 11-match home unbeaten streak for the Falcons. BGSU had been 9-0-2 in home games, including 8-0-2 at Cochrane Stadium, since a 2-1 setback to Northern Illinois in the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament (Nov. 5, 2023).
• BGSU's last regular-season home loss had been a 5-2 defeat to then #18 Missouri State on Oct. 27, 2023.
B!G PLAYS / HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Knights took the lead on a Martin Cadagan goal just over 24 minutes in. A shot by Jeffrey Cox in the center of the penalty area was blocked in traffic, but Cadagan settled the ball, turned and fired a shot through that traffic that found the net.
• Less then four minutes after that goal, the Falcons received a red card, and BG would play a man down for the remaining 62-plus minutes of the match.
• With 12 minutes left before halftime, a left-side cross from Rhys Davies rolled into the center of the box. Johan Nissen-Lie got a touch on the ball, which rolled to an open Alex Halevy. Halevy fired a shot from near the penalty spot, but BGSU goalkeeper Enzo Gil made a diving save.
• Three minutes later at the other end, Andrew Shaffer made a run down the left side of the pitch. He slid a pass to Ryko Bodurov, who made a nifty turn to elude a pair of defenders and fired a shot from the 18-yard line. That shot forced Peter Van Euwen to make a diving save to tip the ball wide of the post.
• The Knights doubled the lead with 5:20 to go before the half. Nissen-Lie received a pass as he headed into the BG defensive third. He slid a pass to Brandon Schoemehl, who took on a Falcon defender near the 18-yard line, then played the ball to the onrushing Nick Harshaw. Harshaw tapped the ball into the net with the outside of his right foot.
• Early in the second half, Trace Terry took a pass from Bennett Painter near the top of the box on the right side. With very little space to work with, Terry fired a blast that went just over the bar.
• Just past the hour mark, Shaffer's left-side diagonal ball found Painter, who put a header on frame. Van Euwen, however, made a quick reaction save to keep BG off of the board. Off of the ensuing corner kick, Painter put a bicycle kick on frame, but Van Euwen grabbed the ball out of the air.
• Midway through the half, the Knights tacked on a third goal, as a Nissen-Lie shot from distance found the upper left corner of the net.

He missed the Falcons' first six regular-season matches after suffering an injury in one of BG's exhibition games.
• Amer Dedic also made his 2025 debut for the Falcons on Saturday night.
UP NEXT
• The Falcons will head to Chicago for a match vs. DePaul on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 23). That contest will start at 3:00 p.m. ET at Wish Field.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return home to face Evansville in the MVC opener on Friday evening (Sept. 26). That contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free to all BGSU regular-season matches.
