BGSU Hockey's Jack Blake Named Nominee for 2026 Hockey Humanitarian Award
January 20, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Bowling Green State University men's hockey defenseman Jack Blake has been named one of 12 nominees for the 2026 Hockey Humanitarian Award, the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation announced on Tuesday (Jan. 20).
The award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.
Blake (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), a senior defenseman and active member of BGSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), has been deeply engaged in service initiatives that have positively impacted both the Bowling Green campus and the broader community. Through his work with SAAC, Blake helped implement a new water fountain system outside the Sebo Center gym, improving access and hydration opportunities for all student-athletes. He also played a key role in organizing annual canned food drives in October and November, supporting local families in need.
In addition to those efforts, Blake has been involved in ongoing sustainability initiatives on campus, including advocating for improved recycling systems in athletic facilities, pushing for the installation of new bike racks for student-athletes, and working to enhance hand sanitizer availability in the gym.
Blake's commitment to service extends well beyond campus. In Bowling Green, he has volunteered for several years with local BG Ice Cats hockey clinics, helping introduce young players to the game while fostering mentorship and community engagement through sport. In his hometown of Los Angeles, he has helped organize and lead summer hockey camps and clinics for players ages U8–U16 in partnership with the Jr. Kings and The Sports Complex in El Segundo, Calif. These camps emphasize skill development, character building, and creating positive experiences for youth athletes both on and off the ice.
Blake and the Falcons continue their season this weekend as BGSU at Bemidji State. Both games will air on Midco Sports Plus.
