BGSU Begins 2026-27 Campaign at IU Indy Invite
October 02, 2026 | Women's Swimming & Diving
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Year three of the Tanner Barton era for BGSU swim and dive begins Saturday, Oct. 3, in Indianapolis. The Falcons will compete against host IU Indy, Bellarmine, Butler, Eastern Illinois and Xavier at 12 p.m. at the IU Natatorium. Read more about the team in the season preview.
The meet is the first collegiate competition for 12 Falcons, including the entire first-year class, making this one of the most important meets on BGSU's calendar.
Bowling Green won all five of its meets at last year's IU Indy event, including a 248-45 victory over Bellarmine. This year's field includes IU Indy of the Horizon League, which is coached by Damion Dennis, and Bellarmine of the ASUN Conference. Butler and Xavier, both members of the Big East Conference, and Eastern Illinois of the Ohio Valley Conference round out the field.
The Falcons bring back a team with new depth. Returners Astrid Garcia and Karina Solera, who have both reached the A final at the MAC Championships, lead a butterfly group with four swimmers expected to contribute in the 200 butterfly. Samia Bardach leads the sprinters and Caroline Toledo the distance crew.
Natalia Mayorga won the three-meter event at last year's MAC Championships, and sophomore Sadie Dempz is among the divers who qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships.
Several first-years could contribute right away. Distance swimmer Kylie Thompson qualified for USA Swimming Junior Nationals this summer, and Emma Klotz is competing for relay spots as a sprint freestyler and butterflyer. Anna Helmuth, of Canton, Ohio, is expected to be a strong breaststroker, and Alicia Bohler, of France, will compete in backstroke and freestyle events. Ava Roffel joins the diving group as a platform specialist.
