Senior Duo Recognized After BGSU's Win at Evansville
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- A pair of Bowling Green State University men's soccer standouts have earned Missouri Valley Conference honors. Senior Gus Peacock has been named MVC Defensive Player of the Week, while senior Jason Ball has been tabbed MVC Goalkeeper of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 20).
Ball has been named the league's 'keeper of the week for the second time in three weeks, having also earned the award on Oct. 6. Peacock earns an MVC weekly honor for the first time in his Falcon career.
Ball, who hails from Miamisburg, Ohio (Miamisburg H.S.), made seven saves, including four in the final 10 minutes of the match, as Bowling Green picked up a 1-0 win at Evansville on Saturday night (Oct. 17). With the win, the Falcons moved atop the league standings, as BG now has a 3-1 record in MVC play. For Ball, the shutout was his second in six starts this season. He has 31 saves and a goals-against average of just 0.67 on the year.
Peacock, a native of Wyoming, Ohio (Wyoming H.S.), played all 90 minutes as the Falcons fought off an offensive onslaught by Evansville. The Purple Aces had 25 shots in the game, tying for the highest total by a BGSU opponent this year, but Peacock teamed with Ball and the back line to hold UE off the scoreboard. Peacock is one of two Falcons to have played all 1,170 minutes this season, and the Evansville match marked the 50th start of his BGSU career.
Peacock, Ball and the Falcons return to action tonight (Oct. 20), with a non-conference road match vs. Oakland University. Then, BGSU will host Belmont University this weekend, in a matchup between the MVC's first- and second-place teams. The league-leading Falcons host the Bruins on Sunday (Oct. 25), with first touch set for 3:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. Admission, as is the case for all of BGSU's home action, is free.
