Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Athletes of the Week as selected by the strategic communications and external relations departments based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's soccer forward Tyson McCoy and women's cross country runner Rachael Hoover.
Male Athlete of the Week
Tyson McCoy, a sophomore from Ann Arbor, Mich., scored what proved to be the winning goal in the Falcons' 2-1 victory over Wilmington on Wednesday night (Oct. 28). The goal, which came in the 72nd minute, was his team-leading fourth of the season, and three of those four goals have been the game-winning goal. The Falcons have won seven-straight matches, and BGSU is currently tied for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference, heading into the final regular-season match, at UIC on Wednesday (Nov. 4).
Female Athlete of the Week
Last Friday, Rachael Hoover, a junior from Plain City, Ohio, led Bowling Green to a third-place finish at the MAC Championship and set new benchmarks for the program. The junior's 20:14.9 6K was a new school record and notched her a seventh-place individual finish. That mark also earned her First Team All-MAC Honors for the first time in her career.
