Jacob Steinman Named CCHA Goalie of the Week
February 09, 2026 | Ice Hockey
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University freshman goaltender Jacob Steinman has been named the CCHA Goalie of the Week following his standout performance in the Falcons' weekend series against then-No. 15 St. Thomas.
Steinman, a native of Ottawa, Ont., played a pivotal role in Bowling Green earning four-of-six CCHA points against the league's top team, highlighted by a 31-save effort in a 3-1 victory on Saturday night (Feb. 7) at Slater Family Ice Arena.
After allowing a power-play goal just 56 seconds into the game on the first shot he faced, Steinman settled in and was nearly flawless the rest of the way, holding St. Thomas scoreless for the final 59:04. He finished the night with a .969 save percentage, his best mark of the season.
The freshman was especially sharp in the third period, stopping all 17 shots he faced, including the final four minutes when the Tommies pulled their goalie and played six-on-five in an effort to tie the game.
Steinman's performance anchored a strong defensive weekend for the Falcons, as BGSU did not allow a single five-on-five goal over the two-game series. Bowling Green limited St. Thomas to just one goal on Saturday, matching the Tommies' lowest scoring output of the season. The only other time St. Thomas was held to one goal came earlier in October.
With his efforts against the nationally ranked Tommies, Steinman earns his first CCHA weekly honor and continues to establish himself as a key piece of the Falcons' defensive core.
BGSU returns to action at No. 18 Augustana this weekend. Both games will air on Midco Sports Plus with an 8:07 p.m. ET puck drop on Friday, followed by a 7:07 p.m. start on Saturday.
