Bowling Green Opens National Invitational Championship Strong

OCALA, Fla. – Bowling Green opened competition at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships on a strong note Thursday, with every Falcon who competed individually advancing to either an A or B final.
During the morning preliminaries, Emily McNicol (B finalist), Lauren Jablonski (B finalist) and Samia Becdach (A finalist) each moved through to finals in their respective events. Jablonski touched in 28.83 in the 50 breaststroke to qualify, while Becdach matched her personal-best time with a 23.14 swim in the 50 freestyle.
McNicol later clocked a 25.42 in the 50 backstroke, finishing 14th overall. Jablonski placed 20th in the 50 breaststroke after posting a 29.14 finals time, while Becdach recorded a 23.35 in the A final of the 50 freestyle to finish 10th.
Bowling Green also competed in a pair of relays Thursday evening, opening the session with the 200 freestyle relay and closing with the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Becdach, Annie Berrow, Sierra Newton and Bella Treib placed 25th in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.44. Later, McNicol, Jablonski, Bridget Kurtzweil and Becdach combined for a 3:46.95 mark to finish 24th in the 400 freestyle relay.
After the opening day of competition, the Falcons sit 24th in a 46-team field with 54 points, leading fellow MAC programs Toledo (35th) and Ohio (41st).
Competition resumes Friday with preliminary heats beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
