Falcons Sustain 1,000 APR Scores In Each Season Under Simon
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program continues to achieve success both on the court and in the classroom. In the NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) Institutional Report, BGSU men's basketball posted a 1,000 Single-Year APR score for the 2024-25 academic year. The milestone marked the second straight season BGSU men's hoops has posted a 1,000 APR score, doing so each season under head coach Todd Simon.
"Our commitment to academics is a pillar of our program," said Simon. "We are proud of our perfect APR each year since coming to Bowling Green as well as the record setting semester team GPA's and the graduation of our athletes. The culture of valuing academics, a BGSU degree and representing this institution has been established and we look forward to continued excellence."
Bowling Green is just one of five MAC schools to produce a 1,000 Single-Year APR score in back-to-back seasons. Prior to Simon's arrival to BGSU, the Falcons last 1,000 Single-Year APR score came during the 2018-19 season. The list of 1,000 Single-Year APR scores in program history now includes 2024-25, 2023-24, 2018-19, 2013-14 and 2011-12 with this marking the first time in program history earning the mark in back-to-back seasons.
Dating back to his time with Southern Utah, Simon's teams have achieved a 1,000 Single-Year APR score four times during his head coaching career. In addition to hitting the mark in each of his first two seasons at Bowling Green, Simon's Southern Utah squads did so in 2016-17 and 2020-21.
The Academic Progress Rate provides a real-time measure of a program's academic success by tracking student-athlete eligibility and retention each term. Teams can earn up to two points per student-athlete per semester, with the multi-year APR reflecting a rolling four-year period.
Since its implementation in 2003, the APR has served as a key accountability metric, ensuring institutions remain committed to the academic achievement of their student-athletes.
