BGSU Athletics Caps Academic Year With Record-Setting Marks

Falcons Post Department-Record 3.58 Cumulative GPA
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University athletics closed out the 2025-26 academic year with record-setting numbers in the classroom. As a department, the Falcons posted a 3.58 cumulative GPA, the highest department-wide GPA in BGSU Athletics history. This came after Bowling Green earned a 996 Academic Progress Rate (APR), leading the MAC with nine 1,000 multiyear APR teams. The outcomes continue to distinguish Bowling Green as a premier academic athletic department.
As a department, Bowling Green had all 17 programs finish the academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, including 13 teams concluding with a GPA of 3.50 or higher. In total, 88-percent of BGSU student-athletes maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better, 64-percent earned a GPA of 3.50 or higher and 34-percent worked for a 4.00 GPA during the spring semester, the highest spring percentage in department history.
On a team level, the women's cross country program earned a 3.94 GPA, leading the NCAA's Division I for the third consecutive year. The program also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons.
In the conference perspective, Bowling Green received the Institutional Achievement Award for the fifth time in August 2025 and captured the Women's Faculty Athletics Representative Academic Achievement Award for a record 12th time, including the ninth time in the last 12 years.
In terms of APR Excellence, the 996 department score led the way, followed by nine programs achieving a perfect multi-year score of 1,000. Of Bowling Green's 17 teams, 14 posted a single-year APR of 990 or higher, reflecting exceptional academic accountability and student-athlete retention with all 14 of those teams earning a perfect single-year APR score of 1,000. Similarly, Bowling Green achieved an impressive 91-percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), including 11 programs earning a perfect 100-percent GSR. Seven different BGSU programs have maintained a perfect GSR for eight consecutive years, including men's cross country, hockey, gymnastics, tennis, volleyball, women's basketball and women's golf.
In total over the course of the year, Bowling Green had 58 student-athletes earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors with six being recognized as CSC Academic All-America finalists, a recognition built around excellence in both the classroom and in competition. BGSU also had 12 student-athletes receive the 2025 1A Faculty Athletics Representative Academic Excellence Award.
