Bowling Green Announces New Specialty Font, Logo As Part Of New Style Campaign
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department has unveiled a new style campaign ahead of the 2026-27 athletic season. In the rapidly changing landscape that is college athletics, the new style campaign pulls Bowling Green back to the athletic department's roots, recognizing the storied history and tradition of the Falcons while inspiring the department's visual identity of today. Pulling from the past, the new style campaign pays homage to the community of Bowling Green that has supported the Falcons for generations.Â
Â
The new campaign looks to separate Bowling Green's visual brand by adding a font and logo family that pays respect to the university's past. Hand drawn and designed in-house by Bowling Green's Director of Creatives Services Ty Hundley, the Falcons are introducing "Marching Freddie," an alternative look on the athletic department's "Flying Freddie" that was utilized in the 1960s and 1970s. Gleaming with tradition, this logo takes a fan-favorite mark of the past and brings it back to life in a new way that stays true to its origin. The logo will have sport specific variants available for each of Bowling Green's sports. The full group of unique variants, including Marching Frieda for women's sports, will be released at a later date with some fall-sport variants included below.Â
Â

Â
The new campaign also features a new font family inspired from the logo history of the department. "BG Font Regular" and "BG Font Wide" are specific to the Bowling Green brand, resembling the talons of a Falcon while pulling from interlocking logos of the past. Pulling inspiration from the history books of Bowling Green, while new this font carries direct links to the tradition of the Falcons. The new font, created and developed in-house by Hundley, will create a cohesive visual identity that will carry across Bowling Green athletics from social media to in-venue lettering. Â
Â

Â
The Falcons will also be adding new brand elements that have been pulled directly from the university's logo history. The previous BGSU logo, often referred to as the "LT," that was utilized from the 1970s until the early 2000s, was dissected to create many of the brand elements. Similarly, a common zig-zag pattern will be used throughout designs in a nod to Bowling Green's Ay Ziggy Zoomba song. With these elements, the graphics of today and tomorrow will be based in the history of the institution, grasping the past to create and inspire the present. Â
Â

Â
The new style campaign will work to enhance the Bowling Green branding while bringing a new blend to old favorites that have made the Falcons of the past. The primary logo for Bowling Green will remain unchanged during this campaign with the new elements adding to the portfolio of Bowling Green's visual identity. Drawing from the storied past and tradition, the new style campaign will connect past, present and future Falcons through one visual identity that is unique to Bowling Green because it's made and inspired by Bowling Green. Â
