Jason Koehler Named Director Of Scouting And Player Retention For BGSU Hockey

Koehler Brings Over Two Decades Of Experience In Identifying And Developing NHL Talent
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University hockey team has named Jason Koehler as the Director of Scouting and Player Retention ahead of the 2026-27 season. Koehler brings over two decades of experience from the USHL as either an assistant general manager or a general manager, spending time with the Sioux Falls Stampede (2003-05), Chicago Steel (2006-08), Youngstown Phantoms (2009-19) and Tri-City Storm (2019-25), including identifying and developing over 80 NHL Draft Picks and 400 NCAA Division I players.
"Bringing Jason Koehler on board is a major step forward for our program," said head Bowling Green hockey coach Dennis Williams. "Few people in the game have Jason's eye for talent. He is widely regarded as one of hockey's premier evaluators with a proven track record of identifying NHL caliber players.
"Over his 20-plus years in junior hockey, Jason has consistently identified and developed elite talent that transitions seamlessly to Division I hockey, as well as the NHL. His vision for player growth, combined with his experience managing championship-caliber USHL teams, aligns perfectly with our goal of building a sustainable culture of winning."
During his career, Koehler has been the architect behind three junior hockey expansion franchises as well as turning around two last-place USHL clubs within a season. He aided in the development of two Hobey Baker winners, Andy Miele and Drew LeBlanc, on the same roster and was also the first USHL Executive to have two first round NHL draft picks in the same NHL Draft, reaching the mark in 2005. Over his tenure at the junior hockey level, Koehler has had seven first round NHL selections and numerous players acquired by NHL, AHL or ECHL teams.
"I'm extremely excited to be joining Bowling Green and thankful for the opportunity to help build and grow the program," said Koehler. "I am very appreciative to Dennis Williams, Curtis Carr, and the coaching staff as well as the Athletic Department here for recognizing the changing world of high level college hockey and creating a position and role for someone with my background. I look forward to acclimating to the staff, players, and campus and helping raise the competitive level here to help make us must-see entertainment for our fans."
Koehler comes to the Falcons after spending the last six seasons with the Tri-City Storm. He joined the Storm prior to the 2019-20 season as assistant general manager before being promoted to general manager in November of 2019, holding the general manager role since. During his time with the Tri-City Storm, he aided in the construction of a record-breaking 2021-22 campaign that resulted in winning the USHL's Anderson Cup as well as multiple Western Conference Regular Season Championships.
