On Dec. 30, 2012, the Bowling Green State University Women's basketball team went on to defeat the University of Dayton Flyers 65-40 to achieve their first win against a ranked opponent inside the Stroh Center.
The win over the No. 14-ranked Flyers marked just the fifth win against a nationally-ranked opponent in program history.
The Flyers entered the game a perfect 12-0 on the season before running into the Falcons at the Stroh Center.
At the time, the Falcons were led by head coach Jennifer Roos, who helped guide them to a five-game winning streak entering the contest against the undefeated Flyers.
The momentum from the winning streak led the Falcons to a dominant performance against the Flyers, earning a definitive 15-point win.
The last time the Falcons defeated a ranked opponent prior to the win over Dayton was in Anderson Arena in 2010, defeating Vanderbilt 69-58.
Leading the Falcons was senior Chrissy Steffen and junior Jillian Halfhill, who scored 16 and 15 points, respectively. Steffen achieved a milestone during the game, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career. Halfhill was not only getting the job done in the points category but also corralled nine rebounds in the winning effort. The Falcons as a team out-rebounded the Flyers 43-39 in what was the first time the Flyers had been outrebounded that season.
The offense was great, but the defensive efforts by the Falcons were crushing the Flyers' hope of winning. The Falcons held a slim 28-25 lead at the end of the first half, but completely closed the doors on Dayton in the second half, allowing just four second-half field goals and forcing 21 turnovers.
The Orange and Brown outscored UD 34-10 in the second half, putting in an effort of complete dominance to earn the win. Alexis Rogers put on a performance to remember as she scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and picked the Flyers' pockets, swiping six steals. Rogers posted the game high in all three of the categories.
Dayton couldn't get by the Falcons' defense as no players reached double digits in the points column.
The Flyers at the time were averaging 82.6 points a game before being held to just 45 by the Falcons. Dayton went just 4-for-25 (16-percent) in the second half and a total of 25.5-percent, which marked a season low on the season.
The Falcons continued a season of excellence in the 2012-13 campaign. The Falcons finished with a 24-11 record. Making it all the way to the MAC Championship and clinching a post-season appearance, competing in the WNIT.
