Jackson Niedermayer Set For 2026-27 Season With AHL’s San Diego Gulls

Niedermayer Paced BGSU In Plus-Minus In 2025-26
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Former Bowling Green hockey defenseman Jackson Niedermayer signed a professional contract, joining the AHL's San Diego Gulls for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Niedermayer is one of three Falcons from this previous season to sign an AHL or NHL contract for the upcoming year.
"Jackson had an outstanding season for us and really showed how much he had grown as a player and as a person," said head Bowling Green hockey coach Dennis Williams. "His ability to transition to defense during the season and become such a reliable, impactful player on our blue line speaks volumes about his hockey sense, competitiveness and willingness to do whatever it took to help our team win. We're extremely proud of him for earning an AHL contract with the San Diego Gulls. It's a great opportunity for Jackson to continue developing and pursue his goal of playing at the highest level, and we're excited to watch the next chapter of his career unfold."
Niedermayer is coming off a 2025-26 campaign with BGSU where he tallied 17 points, consisting of five goals and 12 assists, while leading the team in plus-minus with a mark of +17. During the season he was named the CHCA Defenseman of the Week on Jan. 26 following a sweep over Bemidji State, recording three assists and a +4 weekend. Niedermayer also closed out the season strong, recording at least one point in seven of BGSU's final nine games.
During his collegiate career, split between Bowling Green and Arizona State, Niedermayer appeared in 124 games while racking up 44 points on 20 goals and 24 assists. During his career he played as both a forward and a defenseman, including a position switch in the middle of his senior campaign with the Falcons. He also added two game-winning goals during the 2024-25 season for BGSU while registering nine blocked shots.
Following the 2025-26 season with the Falcons, Niedermayer joined the ECHL's Tulsa Oilers. With Tulsa, Niedermayer appeared in 17 games, scoring a goal and adding six assists for a total of seven points. Niedermayer's signing marks the latest step in a Bowling Green pipeline that continues to send Falcons to the professional ranks, further highlighting the program's tradition of developing players ready to compete at the next level.
