BGSU Hall of Famer Cornelius Cash Passes Away

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Former Bowling Green Falcon, three-time All-MAC First-Team selection and 2009 Bowling Green State University Hall of Fame inductee Cornelius Cash passed away Monday (Aug. 31) at the age of 74. Cash was a 1975 Bowling Green graduate and was a member of the last freshman men's basketball team in BGSU history before putting together a Hall of Fame career in the Orange and Brown.
Cash had an impressive career for the Falcons, accumulating 1,245 career points, which still stands 28th all-time in program history. Cash added 1,068 career rebounds, which still ranks second in program history behind only Nate Thurmond. Cash is one of just three players in program history to log 1,000 rebounds over the course of their career, being joined by Thurmond and Demajeo Wiggins. Cash concluded his career, averaging 15.8 points and an impressive 13.5 rebounds per game for his career.
A captain of the 1974-75 team that finished second in the MAC, Cash was named to the program's All-Anderson Team after being All-MAC First Team in 1972-73, 1973-74 and 1974-75. Cash led the team in rebounds each of those seasons, including a career-high 396 in 1972-73, a mark that still stands as the third-highest total in program history. Cash also led the team in scoring in both 1972-73 and 1973-74, earning the Team MVP recognition following the 1972-73 campaign.
Following his playing career with the Falcons, Cash was drafted in the second round of the 1975 NBA Draft, taken 24th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. He later made his NBA debut on Oct. 22, 1976 with the Detroit Pistons. Over six career NBA games, Cash totaled 21 points and 16 rebounds while adding two steals, one assist and one block.
