Student Recreation Center
Bowling Green State University's Student Recreation Center -- a blend of a student center, health club, and sports facility -- offers modern and expansive recreational facilities for the Bowling Green students, faculty/staff and alumni members. Although it is student-oriented, the SRC has enhanced the quality of life for the entire University community since its opening on January 2, 1979. Built at a cost of $10.1 million, the 185,000 square foot complex features exercise facilities on four levels, including two swimming pools, a whirlpool/spa, 14 handball/racquetball courts, three squash courts, four weight room areas, a cardio room, an elevated running track, an Activity Center for aerobics and a large Sports Center which accommodates basketball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton.
The BGSU 1/3 mile lighted jogging trail surrounding the lower lake north of the Student Recreation Center is open to walking and jogging enthusiasts. Participants are urged to honor trail jogging etiquette and all posted regulations.
Financed primarily through student fees, the SRC is devoted to the recreational and fitness interests of all students. Since the SRC's inception, BGSU students have played significant roles in planning and operating the facility, and in establishing its policies. Student employees serve as the facility managers, and full-time staff supervise the SRC's day-to-day activities and administer a variety of special programs.
Fun Facts About The SRC
The exterior structure of the facility is designed to resemble a falcon, the BGSU mascot.
Of the 20 reasons for enrolling at the University cited by BGSU freshman in an institutional survey, the fourth most popular is "presence of the Student Recreation Center."
