Bio
Doug Boersma begins his fourth season as the head athletic trainer for the Falcons[apos] 18-sport intercollegiate athletic program. Boersma came to BGSU in the summer of 2003 after serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Notre Dame since August 1999. Boersma oversees a staff of 20 which includes full-time certified athletic trainers, graduate assistants and student athletic trainers.
At Notre Dame, Boersma worked closely with the Irish football program and oversaw the day-to-day training needs of the men[apos]s ice hockey program as well as men[apos]s soccer and lacrosse during his four years. He also gained experience as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Kentucky and as a student athletic trainer at Purdue.
At UK, Boersma worked directly with the football and women[apos]s gymnastics programs. At Purdue, the Highland, Ind., native worked with the men[apos]s basketball, football, baseball and women[apos]s tennis teams.
Boersma earned his degree in athletic training from Purdue in 1997 and also earned his master[apos]s degree in health promotion from Kentucky in 1999. The 30-year old native of Highland, Ind., and his wife, Cari, have two daughters, McKenna, born in December of 2002, and Ashlyn who was born in January 2005.
