Cihon oversees the public relations efforts for BGSU[apos]s 18-sport department of athletics, and is the primary contact for men[apos]s basketball, women[apos]s soccer and tennis, while assisting with the football team and overseeing the publicity of several other sports.
Cihon returned to BGSU in the fall of 1996, after two years as the assistant director of communications at the Mid-American Conference office in Toledo. While there, he also served a two-month stint as interim director of communications.
At BGSU, Cihon spent 11 years as the women[apos]s basketball SID, culminating with that program[apos]s run to the [apos]Sweet 16[apos] of the NCAA Championships in 2007. He was responsible for the game notes, press releases, statistics and web site content and upkeep for that uber-successful team. The women[apos]s basketball Falcons won both the MAC regular-season and tourney crowns in each of his last three seasons as the program[apos]s primary media contact.
Cihon also spent 10 seasons working with the softball Falcons, including the 2004 campaign, when that program won the MAC Tournament title. He has been the women[apos]s soccer program[apos]s SID contact since the sport was added, overseeing media and publicity efforts when that team won the league tourney in the fall of [apos]04, before winning both the MAC[apos]s regular-season and tournament titles in [apos]05.
A native of North Canton, Ohio, Cihon received his bachelor[apos]s degree in communications from BGSU in 1990, and earned a master[apos]s degree in sport administration from Kent State University in 1993. He spent two years as a graduate assistant in the KSU sports information office, and also was an intern at Michigan State, where he was the primary contact for the Spartan hockey and baseball teams.
An active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Cihon serves on that organization[apos]s Site Selection Committee.
