Derek Downs was hired as the Director of Compliance in June 2026, returning to his alma mater after serving in the same title at the University of Findlay. Downs held his role with the Oilers from December 2022 until his hiring at Bowling Green.
Downs earned his bachelor’s degree in sport and event management from the Bowling Green State University in 2021, he then obtained his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Findlay in 2022. While earning his master's, he completed an internship with Findlay in the Oiler's operations and compliance departments.
An alum of the BGSU football program, playing as a Falcon from 2017-21, Downs earned MAC All-Academic nods in 2018, 2019, and 2020. In 2021, he was nominated for the Bob James Memorial Award and received the MAC President's Award.
A native of Westerville, Ohio, Derek resides in Perrysburg with his wife Ashley.
