Jacob Pritchard joined the BGSU ice hockey staff in the summer of 2025, one of three staff additions made by head coach Dennis Williams during his preparations for the 2025-26 season. Pritchard brings a wealth of hockey experience across the junior, collegiate, and professional hockey levels. He has been successful at every level of hockey, beginning in the 2013-14 season, where he contributed 14 goals and 22 assists on an Indiana Ice team that won the 2014 Clark Cup of the United States Hockey League (USHL).
Pritchard is a native of Macomb Township, Mich. and played collegiate hockey at St. Lawrence University for three years (2015-2018), before transferring to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst for his final year of NCAA eligibility (2018-19). In his final year of college hockey, Pritchard played a key role, posting 16 goals and 31 assists on a UMass team that went 31-10-0, featured Hobey Baker winner and NHL All-Star Cale Makar, and made a postseason run to the NCAA Tournament Final, where the Minutemen lost to Minnesota-Duluth.Â
Following the 2018-19 NCAA hockey season, Pritchard joined the American Hockey League's (AHL) Charlotte Checkers during their 2019 AHL postseason run. In that time, he played in six games and posted one goal on a Charlotte team that went on to win the AHL's Calder Cup, with familiar NHL stars Martin Necas, Morgan Geekie, Alex Nedeljkovic, and Nicholas Roy.Â
From 2019-2022, Pritchard played for a number of professional teams including the East Coast Hockey League's (ECHL) Greenville Swamp Rabbits, Wheeling Nailers, Reading Royals, along with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, Springfield Thunderbirds and Rochester Americans. His best season came in 2021-22, where he posted 16 goals, 36 assists, for a total of 52 points in 58 games playing for the ECHL's Reading Royals.Â
Pritchard got his start in coaching in 2022, where he returned to his alma mater at UMass for the 2022-23 season. During this time, he got the chance to learn from long time UMass head coach Greg Carvel, who also spent time as an NHL assistant with the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Mighty Ducks.Â
Pritchard joins BGSU from the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL, where he served as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. In that season, the Musketeers amassed a record of 39-25-5, and making it to the USHL Western Conference Finals, where they lost three games to two in a best three-out-of-five series to the Fargo Force, who would eventually go on to win the USHL's Clark Cup.Â
"I'm incredibly excited to begin coaching at BGSU," said Pritchard. "I'm honored to join Coach Williams and his staff. I look forward to helping continue to build on the impressive legacy this program has."
