Reggie Trotter joined the BGSU staff as sprints/jumps/multis coach in October 2023.
In 2025, Trotter earned MAC Assistant Coach of the Year in both the indoor and outdoor seasons after helping both programs win their first MAC titles since 1999 and 1981, respectively.
His groups were major contributors to the team's overall success during both championships. During the outdoor title, those groups scored 58 of the team’s 130 points at the meet. Trotter coached Sabrina Imes and Bianca Staples to first and third-place finishes in the triple jump, which proved to be a major boost on the final day of competition. He also coached Morgan Patterson to a MAC runner-up in the long jump and Katherine Mendehnall, who tied for third in the high jump. All four individuals earned qualifying marks for the NCAA East Regional, which were the most jumpers to ever qualify for the meet from Bowling Green.
Eleven performers he coached earned top 10 marks in program history in seven different events throughout the outdoor season.
Trotter's groups were also the backbone for the Falcons at the MAC Indoor Championships, scoring 47 of the team's 95 points. He coached Staples and Imes to a 1-2 finish in the event, proving to be the turning point of the weekend. He also mentored three individuals who scored in sprints/hurdles and two who scored in the pentathlon.
In his first season at Bowling Green in 2023-24, Trotter helped guide many athletes to new heights such as Patterson and Staples, along with 13 out of 14 athletes who posted a lifetime best in their respective events. Staples, who qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the triple jump, earned second place finishes at the MAC Championships in both indoor and outdoor seasons. Patterson broke a 21-year-old school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.82 (13.69 2.5w). Patterson was also a part of breaking another school record as the first leg of the 4x100m relay team consisting of Patterson, Alexis Parchman, Kiera Bonds and Tianna Mulligan (45.37).
Trotter's group was responsible for eight MAC Indoor Championship scorers and nine MAC Outdoor Championship scorers, six of which placed in the top three.
Trotter came to Bowling Green from UCLA, spending four years with the Bruins (2019-23). Working primarily with the sprints and jumps groups, he served as a volunteer coach his first three years before being named as high jump coach for the 2022-23 season. Trotter helped guide five PAC-12 scorers in the high jump as well as worked with 28 regional qualifiers, 15 national qualifiers and four first-team All-Americans in the sprints.
Prior to UCLA, Trotter coached sprints and jumps at Marymount High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Los Angeles during the 2018-19 seasons. There he helped guide the Sailors to a Mission League Championship 2019. Trotter also coached several league champions, including the school record holder in the girls triple jump (39’5).
Trotter started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Moorpark Community College in Ventura County, California from 2015-17. In those years, he guided 12 individual regional qualifiers and four CCCAA finalists with multiple student-athletes going on to receive NCAA scholarships.
Graduating from California State University-Northridge in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, he also holds a USATF Level 2 Jumps Certification.
A Sherman Oaks, California native, Trotter graduated from Birmingham High School in 2009.
