Sam Hughes returned to Bowling Green and the strategic communications department as an assistant director in September 2026 and currently serves as the primary contact for the volleyball, men's basketball and baseball programs.
Hughes previously served as an athletic communications graduate assistant at Canisius University for two years where he was the primary contact for the Golden Griffins' women's basketball, volleyball, women's lacrosse, and rowing teams. He also helped oversee the addition of the acrobatics and tumbling program and served as the contact for its inaugural season in 2026. He earned his master's degree from the university in sport administration in May 2026.
Hughes graduated cum laude from Bowling Green State University in 2024 with a bachelors degree in sport management and a marketing minor. He also was a part of the Sport Management Alliance, a student-run pre-professional organization aiming to provide students with experience and professional development opportunities which included working two Super Bowls, LVII and LVIII, as an operations supervisor.
At Bowling Green, Hughes began working in the strategic communications department as a student intern, a position he held for two years. During that time, he served as the primary contact for the men's and women's cross country programs. He also worked as an event operations assistant at the Stroh Center and on the football support staff as a video operations assistant throughout his undergraduate stint.
In his senior year, he spent the spring semester at the University of Toledo as an athletic communications student intern while studying at Bowling Green.
Hughes has previously worked with the Syracuse Mets, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, helping to produce games on MiLBtv and MLBtv. He held that position from March 2021 to August of 2023.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Hughes resides in Bowling Green.
