Born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, Santiago Segura began as an athletic trainer intern with BGSU in the fall of 2017, moving up to the title of graduate assistant from Fall 2018 until Spring 2020. Segura returned to Bowling Green in the Fall of 2020 as a full-time trainer following a brief stint at Idaho State.
For the Falcons, Segura currently works with the volleyball and softball programs. During his time with volleyball, including as an intern and GA, Segura has aided the Falcons to four regular season titles (2017, 2018, 2022, 2024) as well as a MAC Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022. Segura also spent time with BGSU’s swimming diving program from Fall 2017 to Spring 2020 and again from Fall 2020 to Fall 2025.Â
Between his stints with the Falcons, Segura spent time as an assistant athletic trainer for Idaho State University. With the Bengals, he worked with the women’s soccer and softball programs.Â
Prior to his arrival at Bowling Green, Segura worked as a graduate assistant at William Penn University from 2015-17 where he supervised the men’s and women’s soccer programs as well as men’s wrestling and baseball programs for the Statesmen.Â
Segura earned bachelor's degrees in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Missouri Valley College in 2015. He later added a master’s in Business Leadership from William Penn University in 2017 and a master’s in Sport Administration from BGSU in 2020.
Segura is BOC certified with licenses to practice in the state of Ohio. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA).Â
Segura currently resides in Bowling Green with his wife, Kyra, and their dog, Raven.Â
