Jamie Rivers
- Induction:
- 1981
- Class:
- 1967
A native of Youngstown and a 1963 graduate of Youngstown High School, Jamie Rivers was selected to the All-MAC football team in 1964, 1965 and 1966 after helping the Falcons to a three-year record of 22-5 and two MAC Championships.
Rivers was a standout end, both offensively and defensively, for Coach Doyt Perry's final team in 1964 as a sophomore. As a junior, he again excelled both on offense and defense for new coach Bob Gibson, and then as a senior he played mostly defense.
Following the 1966 season, Rivers was drafted in the fifth round by the St. Louis Cardinals. He was the Cardinals' Rookie of the Year in 1967 and later was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player as a middle linebacker in 1971. During his eight-year career, he also played with the New York Jets and Houston Oilers.
Jamie Rivers was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981.
