Before the fans were comfortable in their seats, Kent had built a 14-0 lead taking their opening possession and driving 80 yards in 11 plays to paydirt. On the ensuing kickoff, Bowling Green's Joe Alls fumbled and Kent's Abdur Khan picked up the ball and raced 19 yards for a score and it was 14-0 Kent at the 10:53 mark of the first quarter.
Kent added a field goal before Bowling Green got on the board on the first of three scoring connections between Robert Redd and Ricky Schneider. The Falcons had a golden opportunity to close to within three points getting the ball on the Kent three-yard line after recovering a fumble, but an interception in the end zone thwarted the chance.
Kent then scored a pair of touchdowns to take a 31-6 lead at the 11:57 mark of the second quarter. But, a Schneider to Kurt Gerling 20-yard pass with just 12 seconds left in the first half gave the Falcons new life and the momentum going to the locker room.
But, BG could not move the ball with the first possession of the second half, and Kent went 53 yards in six plays to paydirt to take a commanding 38-14 lead at the 10:58 mark of the third stanza.
A Kent field goal was sandwiched around the other two Schneider to Redd scoring passes, but the final score was as close as the Falcons would get.
Redd caught a career high eight passes for 126 yards and the three scores while Schneider completed 22-of-49 passes for 271 yards. His completion and attempt totals were career highs for him.
