The Falcons won their fifth in a row at home dating back to last season and opened their home schedule with a win for the eight straight season defeating Arkansas-Little Rock by a score of 91-84.
After eight ties and four lead changes in the opening 10 minutes of the contest, BG took a lead they would never relinquish with a 14-5 run to take a 34-25 lead at the 4:46 mark. After UALR had a three-pointer, the Falcons outscored the Trojans, 16-5, over the final 4:33 of the half to take a commanding 50-33 edge at the break. At one point in the run, BG scored 12 unanswered points.
The Falcons shot 58.1% (18-of-31) from the field in the first half.
In the second half, BG led by as many as 21 points (75-54 at the 7:31 mark) before UALR made a late run at the victory.
They cut the margin to 11 points at 79-68 with 4:05 left before BG's Anthony Stacey answered with a three-pointer as the shot clock was about to expire at the 3:25 mark and 34 seconds later Len Matela added a lay up off a pass from Stacey to give the Falcons a 16-point edge.
But, UALR would come right back to score nine straight points to cut the deficit to seven points at 84-77 with 44 seconds left, but Trent Jackson and Keith McLeod would convert a pair of free throws at 44 and 32 seconds, respectively, to put the game away.
Stacey led four Falcons in double digits with 21 points while Len Matela matched his career high with 20 markers and Dave Esterkamp added 19. The Falcons shot 60.8% from the field for the game, 65.0% (13-of-20) in the second half.
UALR made 13 three-point field goals in the contest with Alan Barksdale equaling the Arena record by an opponents with eight three-pointers, five in the second half when he scored 17 points.
