Premier All-Stars
Premier All-Stars 110, BGSU 91
December 28, 1999 | Women's Basketball
The Falcons opened the 1999-2000 campaign with an exhibition loss to the Premier All-Stars. Despite the loss, the Falcon coaching staff saw many positives.
BGSU was led offensively by sophomore Dana Western, who scored a game-high 32 points. Western, who totalled 38 points during her entire freshman season, was 12-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point land. She had 15 points in the first half, and 17 markers after the break.
The Brown and Orange kept the game close for much of the first half. Western scored BGSU's first seven points to give the home team a 7-4 lead. The Falcons led by as many as nine points midway through the first half, at 23-14, before the All-Stars battled back.
The visitors tied the contest at 25-all, then took the lead for good at 30-29 with eight minutes left in the first half. The All-Stars used a 17-4 run to take a 57-42 lead into the intermission.
It was more of the same in the second half, as the All-Stars opened the half with a 13-3 run to take a 25-point lead. The young Falcons battled back, closing to 10 points on a Francine Miller jumper with eight minutes left, and again on a pair of Megan Jerome free throws with 6:18 remaining, but BG could get no closer.
For the Falcons, Miller and Jerome joined Western in double digits. Miller, a sophomore, had 13 points on the night, while Jerome, a freshman, scored 11 points. Jerome was 3-of-3 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line.
\ The All-Stars were led by player/coach Lisa Cline. The former Ohio State star had 31 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Former Ohio University standout Dawn Heideman had 25 points and 10 boards, while Larecha Jones, who preped at OSU, had 22 markers.
Senior Sherry Kahle led the Falcons with 13 rebounds, as BG had 39 rebounds to the opponents' 52. Classmate Jaymee Wappes dished out a game-high eight assists. BGSU took a whopping 36 shots from three-point land, making 10. Last year's Falcon squad shattered the old school records with 135 successful treys in an even 400 attempts.
Former Toledo Rocket Angela (Drake) Bray had two points for the All-Stars.
