BG's regular-season home finale will be on Wednesday, Oct. 27 vs. Oakland at 3:30 p.m. with the final regular-season match being played on Sunday, Oct. 31 at Eastern Michigan. Kickoff in Ypsilanti is set for 2 p.m.
THE SERIES ...
Bowling Green won its last regular-season meeting in Akron (1-0 on Oct. 3, 1997).
Buffalo defeated Bowling Green, 2-1 OT, last year in the only previous series meeting. Bulls' forward Steve Butcher scored the match-winner.

Torbjorn Birkeland scored on Akron's lone shot on goal in the contest. Birkeland leads the Zips with 15 points (five goals, five assists), while Christer Larsen has a team-leading six goals. Frank Ross and Orjan Bjaneso are Akron's top playmakers with six assists each. UA has the second best offense in the MAC averaging 2.15 goals per match. Goalkeeper Kyle Milligan has played in 12 matches with a 1.02 goals-against average and four shutouts.
Buffalo suffered a 2-0 setback at Kentucky on Oct. 15. The Bulls are led offensively by senior forward Steve Butcher, the MAC's leading goal scorer (11) and point scorer (30). Junior Tim Songer has nine goals and 23 points.
Senior Justin Deming has started every match compiling a 1.08 goals-against average with two shutouts, plus two combined shutouts.
LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK ...
Both BG goalkeeper Ty Fowler, and Thunder Herd netminder Taly Goode were credited with seven saves in the match, with Fowler making three stops during the overtime periods.
BG had its second-best offensive output of the year in Sunday's 4-1 triumph over visiting Northern Illinois.
Junior Adam Erhard scored BG's first penalty kick goal of the year at 18:35 putting the Falcons in front at 1-0. Gene Braxton tallied his second of the campaign at 30:30 with assists from Dore and Erhard. Fred Degand increased BG's lead to 3-0 with his second of the year from Dore and Mike Tinajero at 37:35.
The Huskies made it 3-1 at 68:31 when Peter Agrimson scored off a free kick. Sophomore Detrick Matthews scored his first collegiate goal at 82:35 to conclude the scoring. Matt Lyons set-up Matthews goal.
Falcon netminder Ty Fowler made eight saves, while NIU goalkeeper Kurt Baumgartner stopped four of eight BG shots.
NOTES ...
Dore has recorded his career-best third match-winning goal of the year with Friday's overtime goal. His eight goals tie a career-high (set in 1996) and his 22 points are also a season- high.
Junior Gene Braxton scored his first game-winner in a Falcon uniform. Braxton, who has two goals this year, did not score for BG in 1998. He did, however, have three goals and three assists for the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg in 1997.
After suffering five consecutive one-goal defeats (and seven straight losses from Sept. 11 through Oct. 3), Bowling Green has a 3-0-1 mark in its last four matches, and has outscored its opponents 12-4. In the last four matches, Chris Dore has three goals and five assists for 11 points.
Over the last four matches senior goalkeeper Ty Fowler has stopped 25 of the 29 shots he has faced, while recording a 0.86 goals-against average during BG's unbeaten streak.
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will take a four-game (3-0-1) unbeaten streak into the next to last weekend of the regular-season. The Falcons will be playing at Akron on Friday, Oct. 22 (7:15 p.m.) and at Buffalo on Sunday, Oct. 24 (1 p.m.).
Bowling Green trails Akron, 6-26-3, in its longest rivalry. The Zips have outscored the Falcons 99-34 in a series dating back to 1966. Akron defeated BG, 4-1, in the 1998 MAC Tournament title game. In the 1998 conference opener, BG and Akron played to a 0-0 (2-OT) tie at Cochrane Field.
Bowling Green was picked second in the 1999 Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll. Defending regular-season and tournament champion Akron was a unanimous first-place selection, while Buffalo was rated fifth.
Akron, who was rated 19th in the NSCAA national poll released on October 18th, tied Kentucky 1-1 (2-OT) in Lexington this past Sunday (Oct. 17) in its only match of the week.
Bowling Green began the week with its second consecutive double-overtime match. This time the Falcons came out victorious as senior Chris Dore scored with 20 seconds remaining in the second sudden-death overtime period. Dore also assisted on Jason Bryant's goal at the 25:52 mark, which gave BG a 1-0 lead at halftime. Dennis Ahebwa scored the equalizer for Marshall at 81:42, setting up Dore's overtime heroics.
With his five point (one goal, three assists) weekend, Bowling Green senior Chris Dore improved his career totals to 25 goals and 21 assists for 71 points. His 25 goals place him in a tie-for-eighth all-time at BG with former MISL star Dennis Mepham (1976-79). Dave Kindl (1993-96) is seventh with 27 goals. Dore's 71 career points tie him with Jason Began (1994-97) for sixth place on the Falcon charts. Joe Burch (1993-96) ranks fifth with 80 points.
