Falcons Conclude Season In Doubleheader Action Against Ball State Friday

BGSU Seniors Lead The Way In Regular Season Finale
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team wrapped up the 2026 season Friday (May 15) with a doubleheader at Ball State. The Falcons jumped out to 2-0 leads in both games and nearly completed a comeback in the first game of the day with a ninth inning score. However, Ball State managed to hold on for both contests, taking the first in a 6-5 final and the second 10-2. Over the two games, the Falcons utilized 24 different players, including seven seniors. The two games marked the conclusion of BGSU's season with the regular season coming to a close.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
- Sam Seidel and Carter Mottice led off the game for the Falcons with a single each, placing runners at the corners before Mottice stole second to put two in second position. TJ Takats put a ball in play to score Seidel followed by a Zack Horky double to left center to bring home Mottice for a 2-0 BGSU lead.
- Ball State fought back in the bottom half with a four-run frame to jump in front, 4-2. Ball State added solo home runs in the second and fourth innings to push the lead to 6-2.
- The Falcons answered in the top of the fifth. Vinny Salvione singled into center and took second on a grounder. Mottice came through with his second home run of the season with a two-run shot to right, cutting the lead down to 6-4.
- In the ninth, Horky drew a walk, stole second and then took third on a throwing error on his steal. A passed ball completed Horky's trip around the bases for a 6-5 score.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- In the second inning of game two, the Falcons got the scoring started. TJ Takats led off with a single to left. Zack Horky followed by putting a ball in play and reaching on an error. A passed ball allowed both Takats and Horky to advance a bag, putting two in scoring position for a Cooper McKenzie single into left that score both for a 2-0 lead.
- Ball State responded with three runs in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 score. The Cardinals added a run in the third and five in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-2. The Cardinals added a run in the eighth for the eventual 10-2 final.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Over the two games, the Falcons utilized a full-team effort with 24 players, including seven seniors, seeing action.
- Sam Seidel tallied a walk over the two games, giving him 106 for his BGSU career, breaking the tie with Nick Elrod for seventh in program history for career walks. Seidel also tallied a hit in the first game of the doubleheader for a six-game hitting streak.
- Zack Horky recorded a hit in the first game and scored in both games, finishing his season with a hit in four of the last five games while totaling four runs scored, two RBI and two doubles over that span.
- Anthony Mitta registered a hit in each game of the doubleheader, giving him a hit in three of the final four games of the season. He also added his 11th double of the year in the second game.
- Like Mitta, Vinny Salvione knocked a base hit in each game of the doubleheader while adding a run scored in the first game and a double in the second game.
- TJ Takats added three hits over the two games, including a multi-hit game in the season finale. Takats concludes the season with a five-game hitting streak, recording seven hits, four runs scored and three RBI during the streak.
- After his four-hit day on Thursday to start the series, Carter Mottice added a two-hit day for the Falcons, including two runs scored and two RBI. Over his final two games of the season, Mottice logged six hits, three runs scored and two RBI.
- Micah Smith hurled 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball for the Falcons giving him scoreless outings in four of his last five appearances. During the stretch, Smith has totaled five innings of work while giving up just one run on two hits and striking out four.
- Getting the start at designated hitter in the first game of the doubleheader, Jaxon Brown made his first career start for the Orange and Brown.
