Bowling Green extended its unbeaten streak to two games with a 1-1 (2-OT) tie with visiting Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon at Cochrane Field. BG is now 4-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in MAC play, while the Broncos record now stands at 1-10-2 overall and 0-2-2 in league competition.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead at the 76:34 mark when Fred Degand's header found the back of the net off a cross from Mike Tinajero. WMU scored the equalizer with three seconds remaining in regulation when Jason Hoffmeyer converted on a penalty kick.
BG was outshot 18-17 in total shots, but the Falcons led in shots on goal, 10-7. BG goalkeeper Ty Fowler made six saves, four during overtime, while Bronco netminder Eric Pogue was credited with nine saves, three in overtime.
The best scoring chance in overtime came with just over 10 minutes left in the second extra session as WMU forward Victor Gordon flicked the ball past a sliding Fowler, but Degand, who earlier had scored his first goal of the campaign, cleared the ball off the goal line.
The Falcons next match will be on Friday, Oct. 15 at Marshall with kickoff slated for 5 p.m.
