BOWLING GREEN, OH - The Falcons won their third straight and eighth in a row at home posting an impressive 85-64 victory over previously unbeaten Marshall. The game was the first MAC contest of the season for Bowling Green while Marshall fell to 2-1 in loop action.
There were eight lead changes and two ties in the first 9:35 of the game before the Falcons scored 19 straight points to take a 37-19 edge at the 5:05 mark. Marshall closed the gap to 10 points scoring eight unanswered points before the Falcons scored nine of the last 13 points of the half to lead by 17 points, 46-29, at the break.
BG shot 67.9% in the first half while Marshall shot only 39.3%. BG was seven-of-12 from three-point range while Marshall hit only one of their 10 tries from beyond the arc.
BG increased their lead to as much as 21 points in the early part of the second half before Marshall cut the deficit to 10 points at 59-49 at the 9:21 mark, after a 9-1 run.
But, a dunk by Keith McLeod and a three-point play by Dave Esterkamp built the lead back to 15 points at 64-49 at the 8:49 mark, and BG led by at least 14 points the rest of the way.
Esterkamp had 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half while McLeod had 16 of his 21 markers in the first half. Len Matela added 16 points and 11 rebounds while Brandon Pardon handed out 11 assists, eight in the first half, in 33 minutes of action.
