
Women's Gymnastics Team Wins Opener

Behind wins in the vault and uneven bars by sophomore Marny Oestreng, the Bowling Green State University women's gymnastics team opened the 2000 season with a 190.175 to 186.450 win over Northern Illinois at the Eppler Complex on the BGSU campus.
Oestreng, who captured the NCAA floor exercise title last season, won the vault competition with a score of 9.700 and also took the top spot on the uneven bars with a score of 9.850. Those are the only two events she competed in.
Northern Illinois athletes captured the top spots on the beam - Anna Gardina with a 9.700 - and the floor exercise - Gardina again with a 9.775.
Bowling Green did not have any gymnast compete in the all-around which Gardina won with a total of 37.775 points.
Bowling Green athletes placed second in both the beam and floor exercise.
Senior co-captain Sarah Grealis was the runner-up on the beam with a score of 9.650 while junior Amber Curry was second in the floor exercise earning a score of 9.675.
The Falcons had the better team score in three of the four events winning the vault with a score of 48.025, the uneven bars with a 47.825, and the beam with a 47.575. Northern Illinois had a 47.925 score to edge the Falcons (46.750) in the floor exercise.
The Falcons are now 1-0 on the season while Northern Illinois dropped to 2-2 overall, 0-2 in the MAC.
