Men's Basketball Team Beats Toledo

The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team got back on the winning side of the ledger with a 93-76 win over rival Toledo at Anderson Arena on Saturday afternoon. The win was the 10th straight for the Falcons at home and raised their season records to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-American Conference.
Matela hit 12-of-13 shots from the field setting a school record for field goal percentage in a single game while also taking game rebounding honors gathering 11 caroms. He was supported by four other players in double figures including 17 points from Anthony Stacey and 16 from Dave Esterkamp.
The Falcons continued their deadly shooting converting at a 61.1 percentage for the game, including 72.7% in the second half.
The Falcons took the lead for good at 3-2 in the early going. A 9-0 run built a double digit lead at the 14:22 mark at 18-8 as Matela scored five of the points.
BG closed the first half with a 15-3 run which put them ahead by a 46-28 count at the break. Matela had six points in the run and ended the first half with 15 points and seven rebounds. Esterkamp had 13 of his points in the first 20 minutes.
Toledo made one run in the second half closing to within 12 points at 71-59 with 8:21 remaining. But, the Falcons scored the next eight points to increase the lead to 20 points with 6:30 left and cruised the rest of the way to the victory.
Toledo would get no closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
