Mt. Pleasant, Mich. -
Behind a three-pointer with 28 seconds left by Anthony Stacey, the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team posted a 77-74 win over Central Michigan Monday night.
The Falcons led 36-33 at the break, but the first six minutes of the second half featured seven lead changes before CMU made three successive three-pointers to take their biggest advantage of the game at 54-46 at the 12:39 mark.
The Falcons worked their way back to even at 60-all at the 6:52 mark.
CMU took a four-point lead at the 2:35 mark at 73-69 on a Chad Pleiness basket before Len Matela dropped a jumper at the 2:17 mark to cut the deficit in half.
Keith McLeod then converted the second of two free tosses to put the Falcons down by only one point with 53 seconds left.
That set the stage for Stacey's three-pointer which gave the Falcons the lead for good.
CMU's David Webber had a chance to tie the game with nine seconds left, but missed the second free throw, after making the first, and Stacey grabbed the rebound and was fouled.
Stacey converted the first free toss and the Falcons rebounded his miss on the second attempt and Graham Bunn was fouled. He converted one of his two free tosses and CMU's desperation shot at the buzzer did not find the mark and BG had escaped with an important Mid-American Conference road win.
The Falcons led the last 11 minutes of the first half, by as much as eight points with 5:35 left, before the Chippewas scored eight of the last 11 points of the half to trail by only three points at the break.
Again, BG got balanced scoring with five players in double digits led by McLeod's 17 markers and 16 points, a Bowling Green high, from Brandon Pardon.
The Falcons improved to 13-3 overall and 5-1 in the MAC with the victory.
