Softball Team Signs Three To Letters Of Intent

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University softball team has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw has announced. Angie Gomez, Jody Johnson and Jeni Kernahan will join the Falcon program in the 2000-01 academic year.
Gomez, a native of Archbold, Ohio, is in her senior year at Archbold High School. Last spring, she compiled a perfect 8-0 league record as a pitcher, helping AHS to the Northwest Ohio Athletic League title. Gomez had an earned-run average of 0.00 in league games, en route to earning First-Team All-NWOAL, First-Team All-District and First-Team All-Ohio honors for the second consecutive year. She threw two complete-game no-hitters and combined on another in NWOAL action.
Johnson, a native of LaGrange, Ohio, is in her senior year at Keystone High School. Last season, she was the KHS Most Valuable Player as the team went 33-0 and won the Ohio Division II state title. Johnson, primarily playing third base, hit .354 and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. In the circle, she had a 5-0 record with an ERA of 0.44. She earned First-Team All-Lorain County Conference and first-team all-county honors, both for the second-straight season.
Kernahan, a native of Perrysburg, Ohio, is in her senior year at Perrysburg High School. She hit .400 with four home runs last year, and has a career batting average of .450 entering her senior season. Primarily recruited as a catcher, she earned All-Northern Lakes League First-Team honors as both a sophomore and a junior, after being named to the league's second team as a freshman. She has earned First-Team All-Wood County honors three times, including first-team laurels in each of the last two years.
The Falcons went 21-27 last spring, in Ross-Shaw's first year as head coach. BGSU finished second in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference with a 15-11 league record, and qualified for the MAC Tournament for the second consecutive year.
