BG Icers Rally Falls Short

Bowling Green, OH - The Bowling Green icers fell to the eighth-ranked Northern Michigan Wildcats by a 3-2 score at the BGSU Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, NMU's Peter Michelutti scored a rebound goal at 3:35 for the only five-on-five goal of the contest. Wildcat Chad Theuer increased NMU's lead to 2-0 midway through the middle stanza with a power-play goal.
BG freshman Ryan Fultz put the Falcons on the board with a power-play goal just 34 seconds after Theuer's goal. Fultz's ninth of the campaign was assisted by Austin de Luis and Michael Jones.
Falcon netminder Tyler Masters was pulled with 1:41 left in the third period, but J.P. Vigier's empty-net goal 24 seconds later proved to be the game-winning goal. Falcon senior center Adam Edinger scored a six-on-four power-play goal with 17 seconds left in regulation to pull BG to within one at 3-2, but the Falcons could not score the equalizer.
Masters made 34 saves on 36 shots in the Falcon cage, while Dan Ragusett made 19 saves while allowing two power-play goals for NMU.
BG is now 10-14 overall and 7-11 in the CCHA, while the Wildcats improve to 17-7-2 overall and 12-4-2 in the CCHA.
The Falcons will visit CCHA newcomer Nebraska-Omaha next weekend for a pair of games. Face-off both Friday and Saturday nights from the Omaha Civic Auditorium is slated for 8:05 p.m. Eastern.
