Falcons Win Season Opener

The Bowling Green Falcons won its 1999 season opener by a 3-1 score over Dayton at BGSU's Cochrane Field. It was also Dayton's first regular-season game of the year.
BG took a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by Tommy Thomas and Kevin Wisniewski. Senior Bobby Biggs score 6:23 into the second half, while the Flyers lone goal came with 5:07 remaining spoiling goalkeeper Ty Fowler's bid for his first collegiate shutout. Folwer played the last three years behind two-time NSCAA Third Team All-American Scott Vallow, but came through in his second collegiate start with nine saves.
Thomas scored his first collegiate goal 9:00 into the contest when he converted a rebound off Jason Bryant's shot. Bobby Biggs started the scoring play on a restart just outside the penalty box.
Wisniewski's first collegiate goal came at the 32:13 mark when he scored on a rebound of Tony Malik's shot.
Biggs completed the Falcon scoring at 51:23 with an unassisted goal as he intercepted a clearing pass and beat Dayton goalkeeper Jeff Krempec (six saves) to his left.
Emmanuel Ayim tallied the lone Flyer marker from just outside the Falcon cage at the 84:53 mark as he converted Mark Schulte's centering pass.
BG returns to action this weekend when it hosts the 1999 Falcon Classic. Tournament action begins Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Detroit facing DePaul. BG plays Western Kentucky at 3:00 p.m. The tournament concludes with two games on Sunday (Detroit vs. Western Kentucky at 1:00 followed by BG versus DePaul at 3:00).
