BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
UP NEXT: The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team, after beginning the dual portion of the 1999-2000 schedule with a 3-0 record, will host Indiana State in a Saturday (Feb. 5) match. The Falcons of coach Penny Dean will host ISU in a 2:00 p.m. start at the Laurel Hill Swim & Tennis Club in Toledo.
The Falcons are 3-0 in dual play for the first time since the 1992-93 season. That team started the dual portion of the schedule by winning four consecutive matches.
LAST WEEK: The Falcons recorded a pair of wins, downing Michigan State, 6-1, Saturday (Jan. 29), before posting a 5-2 win over Illinois at Chicago Sunday (Jan. 30).
At East Lansing, the Falcons won five of the six singles flights and swept the doubles play. BGSU started the day with doubles victories from the teams of Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski (flight #1), Deidee Bissinger and Meghan Rhodes (#2) and Devon Bissinger and Tracy Howitt (#3). Bratton and Wasilewski won by an 8-2 score, while the other two teams recorded 8-4 wins.
In singles play, Wasilewski earned a three-set victory at the top flight, while Rhodes and Deidee Bissinger captured straight-set wins at flights three and four, respectively. Devon Bissinger won a three-set match at the fifth flight, while Howitt needed the minimum two sets to record a win at the sixth flight.
The next morning, BGSU again swept the doubles flights, and the Falcons captured four of the singles flights from the UIC Flames. Sunday's match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo. The same three Falcon doubles teams were victorious for the second-straight day.
At the top singles flight, Wasilewski earned a straight-set victory for the Brown and Orange. Bratton and Rhodes suffered losses at flights two and three, respectively, but the Bissinger sisters won at the fourth and fifth flights, respectively. BGSU also received a two-set win from Howitt at the sixth flight.
