TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green women's tennis team moved to 3-0 in dual play with a 5-2 victory over Illinois at Chicago Sunday (Jan. 30). The match was held at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club in Toledo.
Penny Dean's Falcons swept the doubles flights and captured four of the six singles matches en route to the win. In doubles, BGSU's victorious teams for the second consecutive day, in order were Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski, Deidee Bissinger and Meghan Rhodes, and Devon Bissinger and Tracy Howitt.
At the top singles flight, Wasilewski earned a straight-set victory for the Brown and Orange. Bratton and Rhodes suffered losses at flights two and three, respectively, but the Bissinger sisters won at the fourth and fifth flights, respectively. BGSU also received a two-set win from Howitt at the sixth flight.
BGSU's last 3-0 start in dual play came in the 1992-93 season, when the Falcons began the year by winning the first four dual matches. BGSU, after defeating Michigan State yesterday (Jan. 29) and UIC today, is idle until Feb. 5. On that date, the Falcons will host Indiana State, with that match being held at the Laurel Hill Swim & Tennis Club in Toledo.
