Icers Rally For 4-4 (OT) Tie At Northern Michigan

The Bowling Green State University hockey team rallied from a 4-3 deficit after two periods for a 4-4 overtime tie at Northern Michigan's Berry Events Center Saturday night.
NMU took a 1-0 lead 7:09 into the contest when Fred Mattersdorfer scored on a backhand during a five-on-five situation. BG has now fallen behind 1-0 in all eight contests this year.
The Falcons rallied for a 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes as sophomore right wing Tyler Knight tallied his first of the year from senior left wing Ryan Murphy and freshman center D'Arcy McConvey at the 14:19 mark. Junior center Greg Day netted his fifth of the campaign at the 17:49 mark during a BG power play. Sophomore right wing Ryan Fultz and junior blueliner Marc Barlow garnered assists on Day's lamp-lighter.
The Wildcats tied the game at two when Chris Gobert scored at the 14:03 mark of the middle stanza. Day responded with his second of the game just 1:17 after Gobert's tally. Day's team-leading sixth goal was assisted by Barlow.
NMU scored twice (16:50 and 19:30) in the final four minutes of the second period for a 4-3 advantage. Terry Harrison scored during a five-on-five while Gobert netted his second of the contest during a Wildcat power play.
BG's Ryan Murphy scored the game-tying goal at the 10:35 mark of the third period off assists from Kevin Bieksa and Grady Moore.
Falcon netminder Tyler Masters made 35 saves including five in overtime, while NMU goalie Dan Ragusett had 24 saves with two coming in overtime.
Bowling Green is now 1-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. NMU has an overall mark of 5-1-3 with a league record of 3-1-2. The Falcons will next be in action on Nov. 18-19 at Ohio State. This weekend's set at NMU started a stretch that sees the Falcons play 12 of its next 16 games away from the BGSU Ice Arena.
