The Falcons scored the first goal of the game for the first time this year, freshman Mark Wires scored his first collegiate goal, junior Scott Hewson tallied his first two collegiate power-play markers while also recording his first college multiple-goal game.
Hewson scored the lone goal of the opening period when he banged in a shot by freshman blueliner Kevin Bieksa during a five-on-three Falcon power play. Junior defenseman Grady Moore earned the second assist on the first goal of the game.
BG went ahead 2-0 just 45 seconds into the middle stanza when Greg Day finished off a two-on-one by going five hole on Ohio State netminder Mike Betz. Curtis Valentine and Bieksa assisted on Day's seventh of the campaign.
OSU cut it to one at 2-1 at the 9:48 mark of the second period when Dave Steckel scored just after a BG penalty expired.
Bowling Green increased its lead to two at 3-1 when Mark Wires scored with 40.4 seconds left in the second period. Hewson and Ryan Wetterberg assisted on Wires first collegiate lamp-lighter.
BG started the third period scoring as Hewson netted his second man-advantage marker at the 4:27 mark off assists from Ryan Murphy and D'Arcy McConvey.
The Buckeyes scored a power-play goal at the 6:10 mark as Paul Caponigri redirected a point shot by Doug Andress during a obstruction-tripping penalty on Phil Barski.
Ryan Fultz completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 58.8 seconds left in the contest. Wetterberg intercepted an OSU neutral zone pass and fed Fultz for the 90-foot shot.
OSU outshot BG 35-19, but Falcon sophomore goalie Tyler Masters made 33 saves including 15 in the decisive second period. OSU goalie Mike Betz was credited with 14 saves. BG converted two of five man-advantage opportunities, while the Buckeyes scored on one of their seven power play chances.
