CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Bowling Green softball team struggled for the second consecutive game, and the result was an 8-0, five-inning loss to Penn State Saturday afternoon (March 25). The contest was BG's fourth and last game in the University of Virginia Hoo's Who Tournament, in Charlottesville, Va.
The Nittany Lions (14-8 overall) took advantage of three Falcon errors, scoring four unearned runs in the game. PSU struck in the bottom of the first inning, scoring a run off BG starter Andrea Genter. Genter fell to 2-3 with the loss, working two-and-two thirds innings.
PSU scored three more times in the second inning and twice in the third to chase Genter. The sophomore surrendered six hits and six runs, only towo of which were earned.
The Falcons' only hits were a first-inning single by junior leftfielder Jenny Domschot and an infield single by senior centerfielder Carmen Hitterdal in the third.
PSU added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, to end the game due to the "run rule."
The Falcons fell to 12-6 on the season, heading into Tuesday's (March 28) game at Wright State. That game will begin at 2:30 p.m. BGSU opens the home portion of the schedule Friday (March 31), with a Mid-American Conference doubleheader vs. Western Michigan. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
