DeKALB, Ill. - Host Northern Illinois captured the doubles point, and split the singles matches with Bowling Green, en route to a 4-3 victory over the Falcons. The Mid-American Conference match was held in DeKalb, Ill.
The Huskies won all three doubles matches, and the visiting Falcons could capture just three of the six singles flights. Junior Meghan Rhodes won a convincing 6-1, 6-2 decision over NIU's Kim Donsbach at the second flight, while sophomore Devon Bissinger and junior Tracy Howitt won at the fifth and sixth levels, respectively. Howitt won in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).
In doubles, the top BGSU team of juniors Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski lost in a tiebreaker, while BG's other two teams (Rhodes and senior Deidee Bissinger, Devon Bissinger and Howitt) both lost by 8-6 scores.
The loss drops the Falcons to 9-7 in dual play and 4-2 in MAC action. The Brown and Orange will remain on the road for a Saturday (April 15) contest at defending MAC champion (and the preseason favorite in this year's coaches' poll) Western Michigan. That match will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich.
