Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep Of Marshall With 16-3 Win

The Bowling Green State University baseball team competed a weekend sweep over Marshall with a 16-3 win in Sunday's nightcap.
BG second baseman Kenny Burdine went 3 for 3 driving in one run as 11 different Falcons recorded hits.
Aric Christman got the team off to a good start by tripling to right center in the first inning. He scored on a Alan Gilhousen ground out.
After Marshall tied it in the top on the second, Burdine and the Falcons went ahead for good with one run in the second inning and nine runs the next frame.
Burdine singled to center leading off the second inning. Sean Ryan singled to right advancing Burdine to third with Burdine scoring on a double-play.
BG exploded for nine runs in the third on seven hits. Lee Morrison drove in the first two runs of the inning with a double, and scored on a Kenny Burdine single. Sean Ryan singled as BG had 11 consecutive batters reach base (seven hits, one walk, two hit by pitches and one reaching on an error). Alan Gilhousen, who had two hits in the inning, drove in BG's eighth and ninth runs of the inning with a single to center field.
Scott Dukate's two-run home run to left field highlighted a three-run fifth inning. BG scored twice in the sixth inning on an error, a walk, a passed ball and an infield single.
Freshman Brett Baumgartner earned his third win of the season by tossing five innings only allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out two and did not walk a batter. Deryck Griffith allowed one run in one inning, while Brad Henry pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
The win was BG's seventh straight conference win and keeps the Falcons tied with Kent for first place in the Mid-American Conference East Division at 9-1. Bowling Green will take an 18-13-1 overall record into Tuesday's home game against Defiance. First pitch at Steller Field is slated for 2 p.m.
