The Bowling Green State University baseball team equalled its season-best winning streak of five games with an 11-5 triumph over visiting Defiance College Tuesday at Steller Field.
The Falcons led 2-0 after one inning as Corey Loomis doubled, Matt Best singled, and following a fielder's choice, Alan Gilhousen singled to score Loomis. Len Elias scored on a Scott Dukate single.
The Yellow Jackets scored three times in the third and a single run in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. BG's third run came on a third inning lead off home run by Len Elias.
The Falcons tied the score at four as a Scott Dukate double scored Alan Gilhousen, who had a two-out single to right center.
BG scored seven times in the sixth on six hits. Brad Simon walked to begin the inning. The next five batters would also reach base -- Kenny Burdine singled, Aric Christman had an RBI single, Matt Best had an RBI single, Len Elias walked on four pitches, and Alan Gilhousen had a two-run single. After the first out was recorded, Lee Morrison drilled a two-run triple to right center, and Nick Elrod doubled him home.
Brad Henry, in his first collegiate start, pitched four innings allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out four. Brian Thacker hurled the next two innings to record his first collegiate victory. Thacker allowed one run and recorded a strike out. Kevin Stock pitched a scoreless seventh inning, while Chad Curlis retired three of the four batters he faced in the eighth inning. Ryan Streb allowed one run in the ninth.
Bowling Green is 10-1 in its last 11 games and 19-13-1 on the season. Defiance falls to 6-13. BG will entertain the University of Findlay on Wednesday at Steller Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
