Men's Golf Prepares For First Energy Intercollegiate

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished in a 12th-place tie at the Ball State Invitational held this past Saturday and Sunday at The Players Club in Yorktown, Indiana. Thirty-six holes were played on Saturday with the final 18 being contested on Sunday.
Leading the way for the Falcons was junior Jon Smarrelli (New Castle, PA/Neshannock), who tied for seventh with a 216. Freshman Andy Miller (Delphos, OH/St. John's) was next at 226, while sophomore Justin Gillham (Perrysburg, OH) carded a 227 to finish tied for 47th.
Bowling Green will be participating this weekend in the First Energy Intercollegiate being held on the North Course of the world-famous Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. The Intercollegiate gets underway Saturday at 8 a.m. The second round begins at 1:30 p.m., with Sunday's shot-gun start slated for 8 a.m.
The tournament field includes the host Zips of Akron, Bowling Green, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Kent, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio University and Toledo from the Mid-American Conference along with Big Ten schools Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin. Also competing in the intercollegiate are Marquette, Notre Dame, Wright State and Xavier.
