Vickers Registers Third-Straight Multi-Hit Game

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team wrapped up the weekend series against Toledo on Sunday (April 26). The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the first. However, the Rockets worked to keep Bowling Green away from the run column the rest of the game while chipping away, tying the game in the eighth and taking the lead in the ninth for a 6-4 final score. While the game concludes the weekend series, BGSU and Toledo will play their final matchup of the regular season on May 12 at Fifth Third Field, the home of the Toledo Mud Hens, with a non-conference contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lance Vickers started the bottom of the first inning by reaching on an error. A sacrifice bunt by Sam Seidel moved Vickers to second before a bloop single into right by Andrew DiLodovico put runners at the corners. Back-to-back hit-by-pitches followed, the first hit Anthony Mitta to load the bases and the second hit Brayden Curlis to plate Vickers.
The Falcons scored their second run on a balk to bring home DiLodovico before a walk to TJ Takats once again loaded the bases. Another walk, this time drawn by Carter Mottice, brought home Mitta followed by a sacrifice fly from Zack Horky to score Curlis for a 4-0 BGSU lead after one frame.
In the third inning, Toledo hit a three-run home run to make it a 4-3 score.
The Falcons threatened to add insurance in the sixth. Horky singled to center and later stole second. A single through the left side by Vickers put runners at the corners with Seidel drawing a walk to load the bases with just one out. However, Toledo worked out of the jam without damage, continuing a scoreless inning streak that spanned from the fourth inning through the seventh.
In the eighth inning, Toledo loaded the bases with no outs. Titus Lotz came on in relief and worked out of the inning with the Rockets adding just one, but it was enough to tie the game, 4-4.
BGSU nearly replied in the bottom half. Griffin Scheiderer led off with a double, immediately followed by a Vickers single into left for runners at the corners. Seidel laid down a bunt, but a bang-bang play at home with a sliding Scheiderer went the way of Toledo to keep the score tied.
The Rockets tallied two in the top of the ninth for the eventual 6-4 final score.

FALCON STAT FACTS

Anthony Mitta was hit by a pitch in the first inning, and later tallied a hit, to extend his on-base streak to a team-leading 17 games. Mitta is now just one game shy of matching the team's longest on-base streak of the season, currently set at 18 by Andrew DiLodovico.
Lance Vickers extended his strong stretch with his third consecutive two-hit game. Over the three-game series against Toledo, Vickers tallied six hits, three runs scored, three HBPs, three stolen bases, an RBI and a double.
Getting the start, Jackson Miller tallied five strikeouts for his third start this season with five or more Ks. All three outings have come in his last four appearances.
Zack Horky tallied two hits and two stolen bases for the Falcons. It marks his eighth multi-hit game of the season and his second with multiple stolen bases.
Griffin Scheiderer tallied his seventh double of the season and now has a hit in six of BGSU's last eight games, including two doubles over that span.
