Butler Claims Battle On The Bump Despite Late Bowling Green Burst

Krouse Ks Season-High Five In Start
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team took on the Butler Bulldogs in a midweek Tuesday (April 28) matchup. The two teams engaged in a pitcher's duel with the game remaining scoreless through the first six innings. Luke Krouse dominated the first four frames for BGSU, striking out a season-high five, before handing the ball off to Micah Smith who took over for another two scoreless innings. Butler struck for three runs in the seventh, which proved to be the difference in the 3-0 final. The Falcons will transition back to MAC play this weekend at Eastern Michigan, beginning with a 3 p.m. start on Friday (May 1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons put the first two runners of the game on base with Lance Vickers and Anthony Mitta drawing first inning walks. However, the first hit of the day came from Butler in the bottom of the first with a single through the right side.
- The first hit of the day for Bowling Green came in the top of the fourth with a Mitta single into right. Brayden Curlis followed with an HBP to put two on with no outs, but Butler worked out of the frame to keep it scoreless.
- After six scoreless innings between the two teams, Butler tallied three runs in the bottom of the third for a 3-0 score.
- The Falcons attempted to respond in the eighth. Griffin Scheiderer was hit by a pitch and took second on a wild pitch. A walk to Vickers and another wild pitch on ball four put runners at the corners with one out, but the Bulldogs again worked out the situation with the score still 3-0.
- Bowling Green again threatened in the ninth. Curlis tallied a single before a TJ Takats fielder's choice grounder. Carter Mottice and Zack Horky both followed with singles to load the bases, but Butler once again found a way out of the jam for the 3-0 final.

- Getting the start, Luke Krouse pitched four scoreless innings for the Falcons while striking out a season-high five. Krouse is now the eighth different BGSU pitcher this season with 5+ strikeouts in an outing with the team totaling 21 such appearances.
- Micah Smith followed Krouse's lead with two more scoreless frames. The outing marked the longest of the season for Smith and his fourth scoreless appearance.
- Chase Clatur tossed the eighth for the Falcons, working a scoreless frame. In six appearances this season, Clatur hasn't allowed a run in four of them.
- Anthony Mitta drew a two-out walk in the first inning, extending his on-base streak to a team-leading 18 games, matching the longest on-base streak by a Falcon this season.
- Griffin Scheiderer was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning, giving him 12 HBPs this season, moving him up to a tie for fifth on the program's single-season list.
