Bowling Green, OH -
Bowling Green won its fifth non-league game in its last six tries with a 7-4 victory over Wright State Tuesday afternoon at Steller Field.
Aric Christman led off BG's first inning with a single, went to third on an Alan Gilhousen doubled, and scored on a Lee Morrison groundout.
The Falcons increased their lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the next frame. Corey Loomis reached on an error and scored on a Kelly Hunt single. Hunt moved to second on Brad Simon's sacrifice and scored on an Aric Christman double to left center.
BG tacked on three more runs in the third. Alan Gilhousen had a leadoff single and following a flyout, Matt Best and Corey Loomis each singled to load the bases. Kelly Hunt drew an RBI walk, while Brad Simon drilled a two-run single up the middle.
After the Raiders had cut BG's lead to two at 6-4, the Falcons scored their final run in the fourth inning when Len Elias had a leadoff double down the left field line and scored on Lee Morrison's double to right center.
Aaron Nease, in his second collegiate start, retired the first seven batters of the game. He surrendered all four WSU runs in the fourth. Deryck Griffith hurled three scoreless innings allowing only one hit and striking out four to earn his third win of the season. Brian Thacker tossed a scoreless eighth inning, while Ryan Streb retired all three batters in the ninth inning for his sixth save of the campaign. The BG record for saves in a year is eight by Bob Reichow in 1996.
Bowling Green is now 23-15-1 overall and will begin a 10-game road trip Wednesday afternoon at Oakland University (3 p.m.). The Falcons are scheduled to play a four-game Mid-American Conference series this Saturday and Sunday at Kent State University. Doubleheader action both days begins at 1 p.m.
