
Baseball Wins At Oakland 11-7

The Bowling Green State University baseball team improved its record to nine games over .500 (24-15-1) with an 11-7 triumph at Oakland University (16-24) on Wednesday.
The Falcons scored four times in the top of the first as Aric Christman and Kenny Burdine each singled and Alan Gilhousen's double scored Christman. Burdine came home on a wild pitch, with Gilhousen scoring on a Lee Morrison groundout. Sean Ryan then drilled his team-leading seventh home run.
BG's second inning run was scored with two outs when Aric Christman reached on an error and scored on an Alan Gilhousen single.
After the Golden Grizzlies had taken a 6-5 lead, BG tied it in the fifth with Alan Gilhousen's second double of the game preceding an RBI single by Matt Best.
Bowling Green went ahead to stay with four runs in the sixth inning. Tim Newell singled to begin the inning and moved to second on a walk to Nick Elrod. Shaun Rice advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. After a walk to Corey Loomis and a strikeout, Len Elias walked with the bases loaded to snap the 6-6 tie. Sean Ryan then followed with a bases clearing double down the left field line.
Nick Elrod scored BG's final run as he had a one-out single in the ninth, moved to second on a groundout and scored on a Corey Loomis single.
Brad Henry started for BG and allowed two runs in 1.1 innings. Kevin Stock hurled 1.2 innings and allowed four runs (all unearned). Joe Cheney retired all three batters he faced, while Keith Williams earned his first collegiate victory by retiring three of the four batters he faced. Tony Fontana allowed one run in the sixth inning, with Mike Muzi striking out four batters in two innings of work. Ryan Streb retired three of the final four OU batters.
Bowling Green will return to Mid-American Conference action this weekend with a four-game series at East Division leading Kent. The Falcons are 11-3 in league play, while the Golden Flashes enter the series with a 12-2 conference. Doubleheader action both days at Gene Michael Field begins at 1 p.m.
