Bowling Green suffered its third straight defeat at Kent in Sunday's second game. BG left 11 men on base in falling 8-3 to the Golden Flashes.
The Falcons led 3-0 after an inning-and-a-half. Len Elias reached on an error, advanced to second on Brad Simon's single and moved to third when Nick Elrod drew a walk. Aric Christman singled in two runs, while Kenny Burdine's single plated Elrod.
Kent scored once in the second and fourth innings and went ahead to stay with a five-run fifth inning. The Golden Flashes had six hits in the fifth to erase BG's 3-2 advantage.
Brett Baumgartner allowed five runs (four earned) in four innings to lose his first game of the season. Ryan Streb gave up three runs in 1.2 innings, while Chad Curlis retired the lone batter he faced.
Bowling Green falls 25-18-1 overall and 12-6 in the Mid-American Conference, while Kent improves to 34-12 overall and an East Division leading 15-3 in league play. BG is in second place one game ahead of Ohio University (13-7) and two games ahead of Miami (11-9). The Falcons will play four games at Ohio University next weekend (May 6-7) and will conclude connference play with a four-game home series against Akron on May 13-14.
